Information Center strongly condemns the series of attacks against Shia Muslims .....

   نوشته شده توسط: mohammad mehrafrooz

ISLAMIC INFORMATION CENTER

INFORMATION ALERT

(WASHINGTON DC - February 5, 2010) The Islamic Information Center strongly condemns the series of attacks against Shia Muslims around the world that have occurred on the Holy Event of Arbaeen, the 40 day commemoration of Ashura. To learn more about Ashura, click here.

Soldiers Guard Mourners in Iraq

Suicide bombers are targeting Shia worshippers today in Iraq and Pakistan -- much like they did 40 days ago, on the Holy Day of Ashura.

More than 25 people were killed by two car bombs in Karbala -- one of the most important cities in Islam, where millions of people are gathered this week for Arbaeen, the 40 day commemoration of Ashura. The bombs targeted a group of worshippers as they were leaving the city.

It's the second high-profile bombing in Karbala this week -- the first, on Wednesday morning, killed roughly 20 people -- and the third anti-Shia attack: A female suicide bomber blew herself up in a crowd of Shi'ite pilgrims in Baghdad on Monday.

Map of Iraq

In Pakistan, a suicide bomber attacked a bus full of pilgrims in Karachi, killing at least a dozen of them. The bomber was driving a motorcycle loaded with explosives, according to Al-Jazeera; he blew himself up on a main road between Karachi and the airport.

The main Arbaeen procession, on MA Jinnah Road, is heavily guarded, so the bomber apparently chose a target away from the security cordon.

IIC is also hearing reports now that a second suicide bomber struck in Karachi -- this one at Jinnah hospital, where dozens of victims from the bus bombing were taken for treatment. Pakistani TV reporters described "stretchers flying through the air" after the bombing.

Karachi, Pakistan

"The United States condemns the series of bombing attacks against Shia pilgrims in Iraq over the past week. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement.

"Attacking men, women and children engaged in religious pilgrimage is reprehensible and exposes the cynical immorality of the terrorists who seek to replace Iraq?s hard-won progress with violence and intimidation," she said.

Mourners in Pakistan

"They will not succeed in breaking the will of the Iraqi people. Iraqis are committed to realizing the promise of their democracy. There is no better rebuke to those who traffic in terror," she said.

These attacks are a horrific tragedy, and reminiscent of the original sacrifice of Prophet Muhammad's Grandson, Imam Husain, in which violent armies attacked peaceful travelers in an effort to perpetuate tyranny.  When the original Ashura attack against Imam Husain lead to his death, the death of the majority of his family members, and the imprisoning of small children and women, the event became a rallying cry for hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world to stand up against oppression. In this spirit, Ashura is commemorated as the reminder of the need for Muslims to stand united against oppressors.

Imam Husain Packet

Islam, as taught by the Holy Prophet and his family, strongly advocates peaceful dialogue and discussion and rejects violence. The Prophet Muhammad (May God Bless Him) condemned all forms of terrorism against all people. The individuals who perpetrated this attack blatantly acted against the teachings of Islam and humanity.

The Islamic Information Center, under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi, works to bring understanding among people of all faiths and background in an attempt to build bridges for the future to prevent hate crimes through education and tolerance. IIC also works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the Holy Religion of Islam.

As-Salaam Alaikum,

Welcome to the next issue of Islam in 60 Seconds in the year 2010. Unfortunately this week we faced an increase in violence, with a major suicide attack in Karbala, Iraq over the past week. Details of the attack can be found at the IIC blog and are horrifying. They show a blatant disregard for Islam and the tragedy of Imam Husain in Karbala.

As always, I thank you for taking the time to read Islam in 60 Seconds, and ask that you pray for a better world, God Willing.

Renowned Swiss politician Daniel Streich, who rose to fame for his campaign against minarets of mosques, has embraced Islam.
A member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) and a well-known politician, Daniel Streich was the first man who had launched a drive for imposition of ban on mosques minarets, and to lock the mosques in Switzerland. The proclamation of Streich's conversion to Islam has created furore in Swiss politics, besides causing a tremor for those who supported ban on construction of mosques minarets.

Suicide Bomber Kills Shi'ite Pilgrims Near Iraqi Holy City of Karbala

Voice of America

Iraqi officials say that a motorcycle bomb blast has killed at least 20 Shi'ite pilgrims near the holy city of Karbala.  The explosion came as hundreds of thousands of Shi'ite pilgrims made their way, mostly on foot, to Karbala to commemorate the 40th day after the historic slaying of Imam Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.  The apparently sectarian attack targeted Shi'ite pilgrims on one of the more sacred days of the year, as hundreds of thousands marched on foot to Karbala, in Iraq's Shi'ite heartland. The blast tore into a thick crowd of pilgrims, killing and wounding dozens.

Five American Muslims in custody in Sargodha threw a handwritten note to reporters from a police vehicle while on their way to a court hearing on Tuesday, stating: "Since our arrest, the U.S.A., FBI, and Pakistani police have tortured us," according to their representative, Khalid Khawaja. A Pakistani relative of one of the men also claimed that the police had threatened to give them electric shocks. A spokesman for the American Embassy in Islamabad, Richard W. Snelsire, said that the United States "categorically rejects those allegations." Mr. Khawaja, whose organization provided the young men's lawyer, said a bail hearing would be held Feb. 8. The authorities have not yet brought charges against the men.

Somali militant group Al Shabab aligns with Al Qaeda

Al Shabab's announcement that it is aligned with Al Qaeda's global terror network confirms previous intelligence reports from the US and Somali governments, but it also complicates peacekeeping efforts in Mogadishu and Kenya. The US and Somali governments have previously accused Al Shabab of having ties to Al Qaeda, but these have not been confirmed until now. The announcement suggests that the group's identity is evolving: It has been focused on a nationalist agenda to establish an Islamic state in Somalia, but now seems to be moving toward a larger role in the global terror network.

Somebody somewhere is trying to get attention, he said, "but we would not give him," since the police have the capacity to track down any group of criminals in any part of the country

As-Salaam Alaikum,

Welcome to the fourth year of Islam in 60 Seconds. This project was started in 2007 with the intention that Muslims should know about the affairs of other Muslims around the world. Unfortunately in this fast paced age, we do not always have the time to read lengthy articles on all the possible stories that come our way, so Islam in 60 Seconds was created to provide to quickly and easily read summaries of such stories.

In fact, in honor of the fourth year of Islam in 60 seconds - I invite you to check out our old website!

In various parts of the world, "New Years Resolutions" are an important part of the winter season and as such I would like to present you with IIC's New Years Resolutions:

1. Bring attention to the oppressed people of Yemen, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia in a positive and productive manner.
2. Expand IIC's Media focus and coverage with the development of IIC Studios.
3. Conduct a useful convention that focuses on actualizing the needs of the community.
4. Develop partnerships with relevant US based groups and agencies.

As always, I thank you for taking the time to read Islam in 60 Seconds.

Imam Husain ibn Ali

   نوشته شده توسط: mohammad mehrafrooz

Nearly 1,400 years ago,
Nearly 1,400 years ago, Imam Husain ibn Ali, grandson of Prophet Muhammad (May God Bless Them), was tragically martyred on the sands of Karbala, Iraq. Imam Husain sought to promote justice, and help restore Islam to its peaceful and benevolent nature - a movement opposed by oppressors.

On his journey to spread the true message of Islam: that it is a religion that focuses on the Oneness of God, on prayer and fasting, on helping the needy, and speaking out against evil - he and his family members were surrounded by the armies of Yazid, a corrupt oppressor focused on building power and brutally crushing dispute.

Imam Husain's Tomb
The tomb in which Imam Husain (May God Bless Him and his family) buried, in modern day Karbala, Iraq.

On the tenth day of Muharram, also referred to as "Ashura", Yazid's forces, numbering in the thousands cornered and killed Husain and the majority of his male family members, including Husain's infant child, leaving only women and some children. The surviving women and children were then shackled and imprisoned.

This event is considered especially tragic, because Husain and his family members, were mercilessly slaughtered and the survivors imprisoned in the name of "Islam", despite the fact that they were espousing the true and peaceful belief system as taught by their grandfather, the Prophet of Islam himself. Conversely, Yazid sought to promote widespread violence and destruction in an effort to distort and destroy Islam

Since then, Ashura has been a day of solitude and remembrance for Muslims throughout the world.

news in islam....

Preliminary reports indicate that there have been bombings in both Iraq and Pakistan, killing approximately one hundred innocent civilians on a day meant for prayer and meditation. In Bahrain and Yemen, the oppressive governments of both countries continued their lockdown against religious freedom, by silencing the media while they closed mosques and forbade prayer services.  Saudi Arabian Muslims remained in fear of their government's oppressive tactics, and secretly conducted prayer services in their homes to avoid persecution, arrest, and imprisonment.  Saudi Arabia event launched military attacks against foreign Shia populations.

(WASHINGTON DC - December 18, 2009) The Islamic Information Center would like to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic month of mourning known as Muharram, with today being the first day of his Holy month.  During Muharram hundreds of millions of Muslims mourn the tragedy that befell the family of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Husain (May God Bless Them All) on the field of Karbala nearly 1,400 years ago. Karbala is located in modern day Iraq.

The mosque where Imam Husain is buried, in modern day Karbala, Iraq.

Historical records indicate that forces of the ruling monarchy surrounded the camp of Imam Husain. Eventually they cut of the entire food and water supply to this encampment, which included dozens of women and children, including infants.

On the day of Ashura, which is the Arabic word for the tenth, Muslims remember and mourn the tragic deaths of Imam Husain and the many that lost their lives at the hands of the ruthless despot, Yazid, and his army. Among the dead was Imam Husain's infant son, who was killed when his father tried to secure water for him.

This event is considered especially tragic, because Imam Husain and his family members, were mercilessly slaughtered and the survivors imprisoned in the name of "Islam", despite the fact that they were espousing the true and peaceful belief system as taught by their grandfather, the Prophet of Islam himself.

To learn more about Imam Husain, please take a moment to download and read the Imam Husain Information Packet, developed by the Islamic Information Center to teach and educate the American public about this important individual in Islamic history.

Construction in East Jerusalem is ongoing. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon expressed concern at the ongoing construction and eviction of Palestinian families. Israeli settlements are illegal under International Law though Israel denies this.

Organization Aims To Dispel AIDS Taboo

BBC

The African HIV Policy Network is working with Imams and mosque leaders to help dispel the taboo surrounding those infected with HIV and suffering from AIDS. Studies have shown 6 out of 10 new cases of HIV are Muslims. Many are afraid to tell family and community members out of fear of being rejected and disowned, however not doing so has made it easier for the disease to spread. Mosque leaders hope that by providing support and literature to community members it will help decrease the incidence amongst young Muslims as well as raise awareness and support for those infected.
